Economic Gardening Initiative
Strengthening the Local Economy

The City of Beaverton and Beaverton Chamber are rolling out a new strategy to help local businesses grow by giving them access to high-quality market research and demographic data bases at no charge.

GIS, data base research, and other sophisticated information tools that are normally available only to large corporations, would be made available to small, local growing businesses to improve decision making. High quality information, combined with the development of supportive infrastructure, and the creation of connections to universities, trade associations, and other public/private resources, will provide an environment that fosters growth in these Beaverton based companies.

For example, a business might approach our Economic Gardening program and provide a list of customers. Using GIS business analysis tools, customer locations would then be plotted on a map of Beaverton. The high-density areas are noted and the underlying demographic, lifestyle and consumer expenditure data are used to build a profile of the company's customers. It is a simple matter to find additional neighborhoods that match that profile. The process would give Beaverton companies highly targeted marketing capabilities.

Other services would include:
  • Referrals for technical assistance such as business plan development or worker training
  • Referrals to Broker Listings of buildings and sites for a new or expanding business
  • Community information and demographics
  • Sources of Financing
  • Marketing and Mailing lists
  • Assistance with City procedures
  • Custom Business Research i.e., competitors, industry trends, new market analysis.
Rather than expend resources on trying to recruit new business to the community, "Economic Gardening" focuses on helping the community's existing businesses to expand and grow. The City's economic gardening services is available at no charge to any business within the Beaverton city limits, or any business considering locating within the city limits, regardless of size.

BETA testing is under way now!
  • Have you been in business for a minimum of 2 years?
  • Is your Beaverton Business breaking even or profi table?
  • Would you like access to high-quality market research and demo-graphic databases at no charge?
Call Evelyn at the Chamber 50-350-2004 or email her at evelyn@beaverton.org to see initiate the process.
