April - June 2008 - Business Matters! Series

Business Management Essentials:
What every Business Owner and Manager must know and use to succeed!

The Business Matters! Business Management track will provide engaging and interactive sessions to help you plan and lead the way!

Anchored by ActionCoach, David Chin.

April 2nd - Persuasive Sales Conversations, Julia Wert-Marrocco, Pumping Mental Iron

This fun, interactive session will cover:

  • The components of a successful sale
  • Effective sales language and writing authentic scripts
  • How to convert a higher number of sales

Participants will leave with a professional outline they can refer back to, action steps to do immediately, a system in place for accountability, as well as resources for future improvement.

April 16th - Mastering the One Page Strategic Plan – Overview & Goal Setting, Dave Chin, ActionCoach
Learn how to get your long term and short-tem vision, metrics, and priorities on a single page to aid communication and alignment.

The bigger your company gets, and the faster it’s growing, the harder it is to get everybody on the same page.  The problem is, of course, is that there isn’t a single page around which to align.  Instead there are likely more than a dozen pages, actual and imaginary, along with memos and e-mails, each purporting to describe your company’s vision, mission, and strategy.  Further, many of these messages may be riddled with unclear and even contradictory statements about who your company is, what it does, and how.  We will introduce you to the Planning Pyramid and the One-Page Strategic Plan, a simple yet powerful tool that helps you edit your vision and strategy down to a single action-oriented page.

May 7th –Mastering the One Page Strategic Plan. Part 2 – Core Values, Vision, & Mission, Sheryl Eldene, MBA.
Explore in depth the ground zero of your strategic plan.  We will move into the place upon which all else is built:

  1. Your personal core values and how those values are expressed in your strategic plan
  2. Your personal beliefs about you in business and about your specific business and how those beliefs are expressed in your actions and initiatives as well as in your perceptions of opportunities and threats.

This interactive presentation will invite you to look deeply into your reasons for creating your business and your biggest Why for going forward.  We will use Values in Action materials out of Penn State research into Happiness and Success and discover ways to make that work for you.

Participants will walk away with:

  • What their highest core values for their business are
  • What character strengths are reflected in these values
  • Some ideas of how to encourage those strengths with employees
  • Beliefs in terms of what-should-be-done for you personally and for your business
  • How these beliefs lead to your action steps or initiatives for growth that you put in place
  • Beliefs about what-shouldn’t-be-done for you personally that may be affecting your perceptions of opportunities and threats
  • A new or refined mission statement that reflects these deeply held beliefs
  • A specific vision to support completion of the One Page Strategic Plan

May 21st - Connected Communication: Your Presentation Power, Michael Harrington, Harrington Training Group

A quick-moving, highly interactive workshop covering:

  • Who Do You See As A Good Speaker?
  • How Listeners Assign Trust to a Speaker
  • Creating Connection Through Content
  • Creating Connection Through Body Language
  • Using the Power of Connection In Every Presentation
  • Q & A

Participants can expect to enjoy descriptions and demonstrations of the key communication connectors in both content and personal presence.  Everyone will experience one, group, interactive exercise.
All participants walk away with a 10 step plan to unleash the power of Connected Communication.

June 4th - Action Planning:  Developing a plan to meet your result goals, Heyke Nickerson, NW Employer Solutions

Business owners are often faced with result goals that require well-developed action plans.  This interactive session guides participants through a series of activities including idea formation and written exercise to guide development of individual action plans.  Through it, participants will learn how to create effective action plans to achieve their desired business results.

June 18th - The Leader in the Mirror, Julia Wert-Marrocco, Pumping Mental Iron

This fast-moving and intense, interactive session will cover:

  • Identifying the qualities of a successful leader
  • How to stay motivated every day
  • Creating an accountability “safety net”

Participants will walk away from this session with their own personalized list of leadership strengths to leverage, a written plan to strengthen their “weaker muscles”, and practical tools to keep them accountable and motivated every day.

Meetings: The 1st and 3rd Wednesdays and held at the Beaverton Round Training Center, 3rd floor at 12725 SW Millikan Way - Coldwell Banker Buidling from 7:30am - 8:30am. For directions and a map - click here.
