BSD Announces Early Release for Teacher Collaboration & Professional Development

Beaverton Schools plan Wednesday Early Release for Teacher Collaboration & Professional Development beginning Sept. 2017

Here is the complete Press Release

The Beaverton School District will be establishing a Wednesday 90-minute early release schedule beginning next fall (2017) for teacher collaboration and professional development. The District is working this school year to plan an effective implementation.

Collaboration is an ongoing process of small teams of teachers working together to know each student’s strengths and challenges, and to meet students’ specific learning needs, while strengthening the teacher’s own teaching practices. Collaboration time gives teachers a more comprehensive view of the child and increases teacher effectiveness, making it essential for student success.

Over the course of the next three years, nine additional student contact days will be added to the District calendar. More information here:

Toys For Tots & TVFR!

Spread Holiday Cheer for Children in Need

Toy Drive

Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue firefighters are dedicated to responding to the fire and emergency medical needs of the community at a moment’s notice.  This holiday season, firefighters are asking community members to help them come through for less-fortunate children as well.

For more than three decades, the KGW Great Toy Drive has provided hundreds of thousands of toys to our community’s less-fortunate families in Oregon and Southwest Washington. The toys collected during the toy drive are distributed to needy kids in our area with the help of more than 130 local organizations and hundreds of dedicated volunteers.

Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue has been a longtime partner in supporting KGW’s Great Toy Drive.  Most TVF&R fire stations are once again serving as collection sites and accepting new, unwrapped toys for children of all ages now through December 24.

With the help of our generous community members, TVF&R firefighters were able to fill a fire engine and box truck full of toys to deliver to the KGW studios last December.  This year, the need continues to be great, and firefighters hope to exceed last year’s collection effort.

Beaverton-area residents and businesses can drop off any new, unwrapped toys at the following local stations:

  • Aloha Station 62, 3608 SW 209th Ave.
  • Bethany Station 68, 13545 NW Evergreen St.
  • Central Beaverton Station 67, 13810 SW Farmington Road.
  • Cornell Road Station 60, 8585 NW Johnson St.
  • North Beaverton Station 61, 13730 SW Butner Road.
  • Progress Station 53, 8480 SW Scholls Ferry Road.
  • Raleigh Hills Station 70, 8299 SW Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway.
  • South Beaverton Station 66, 13900 SW Brockman St.
  • West Slope Station 65, 3425 SW 103rd Ave.

All toys donated by December 14 will be donated to the KGW Great Toy Drive. Any toys collected after that date will be taken to the Washington County Girl Scout Christmas Breakfast for the Homeless on Christmas morning to be distributed to Washington County children who attend the breakfast with their families.

Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue knows that we serve a generous, compassionate community.  Thank you in advance for helping us contribute to brighter holidays for children and teens in need.

The Class of 2016 is launching Beaverton Awareness Day May 14

#GiveBackBeaverton    #BeavertonAwarenessDay

Beaverton, OR, – The 2016 Leadership Beaverton Class is proud to announce “Beaverton Awareness
Day” Saturday, May 14th, 2016 from 10:00am to 1:00pm directly in front of the Beaverton City Library.
Beaverton Awareness Day is an event that encourages our community to learn about and find ways to
engage with Beaverton’s non-profits & volunteer opportunities. Through many conversations and
partnerships with local organizations, the most dominant need is “engagement, awareness and
participation” to truly make a bigger impact on the needs of our community. Our goal is to create an
annual event, where over 50 Non-Profits and community organizations can share their story and needs
with people in the community that are looking for ways to get involved. We have reached out to over 200
groups in the area and are seeing an incredible response of groups wanting to be involved. Read On…
